On April 30th, RMS is hosting another author this year. Patricia McCormick, a very well acclaimed author and American journalist is visiting RMS virtually, live streamed into all classrooms of 8th grade.
Patricia McCormick, is a writer of realistic fiction for young adults and a two time National Book Award finalist. She is the author of several critically acclaimed novels - including Never Fall Down (the true story of a boy who survived the Killing Fields of Cambodia by playing music for the Khmer Rouge).
Never Fall Down is part of the current 8th grade curriculum at RMS and we are very lucky to have her address all our 8th grade children. Please take a few minutes out to check out her webpage on Never Fall Down, which is a treasure trove of information. It also includes an enlightening video where Arn speaks about how he found the courage to share his story and how he and Patricia McCormick worked together to craft the book. They talk in particular about how hard it is share those things of which we are most ashamed and about the important role of the listener. You can read/watch all this and more at: https://www.patriciamccormick.com/never-fall-down
She is also the co-author of I am Malala (the story of Malala Yousafzai, the girl who was shot by the Taliban in her fight for education). Some of her other acclaimed books include - SOLD, The Plot to Kill Hitler, and a picture book, Sgt. Reckless, the True Story of the Little Horse who Became a Hero.
